STAINLESS STEEL COIL AND SHEET
Stainless Spring Steel
301 Stainless Steel
301 Stainless Steel is a type of austenitic chromium-nickel stainless steel, renowned for its high strength and ductility when cold worked, characterised by its nominal composition of 17% chromium and 7% nickel.
301 stainless steel is considered a high-strength grade, often preferred over other austenitic grades like 302 and 304 in its tempered condition, as it offers greater elongation at the same strength level, facilitating fabrication. It permits cold working to the ideal combination of mechanical properties desired for springs. Its unique combination of hardness and toughness makes for better forming quality in Full Hard Temper plus increases fatigue life in the finished spring.
301 is ideal for making small springs without the necessity for heat treatment.
We stock stainless steel sheet and strip from 0.05mm thickness to 1.5mm in 301 temper rolled, for delivery within 48 hours.
420 Stainless Steel
420 stainless steel is a martensitic stainless steel known for its high hardness, good corrosion resistance, and wear resistance, particularly after heat treatment.
It is magnetic in both annealed and hardened conditions and is commonly used in applications requiring strength, hardness, and some degree of corrosion resistance e.g. blades, cutlery etc.
We stock 420 with a typical width of 295mm, thicknesses are 0.5mm, 0.8mm, 1mm, 1.2mm, 1.5mm, 2mm and 3mm, in sheet and coil.
Our stock is hardened and tempered, suitable for manufacturing flat springs and blades. We also offer a cutting or profiling service.
420 sheet is normally supplied within 3 days.
420 can also be supplied in coil, normally on a 7 day delivery basis.
